So as this is my third time in Eve I thought that it would be a good idea to work out some kind of structure for how I'm going to achieve my goal: finding my place in the universe of New Eden. The first thing I've done is to lower my expectations. I admit that when I first signed up to Eve Online in 2009, my intention was nothing less than universal domination. I wanted to be the best player, the most powerful, the richest.
Looking back, I think I quit Eve first time around because I failed to make any sort of impact on the game, and to me, that was failure. How could I have fun if I wasn't seen as important? Now (and perhaps being nearer 40 than 30 in years) I've realised that, like real life, you can enjoy your life without being a Head of State, or a famous musician.
So - I only have one stated aim for the next six months in Eve: explore all that the game has to offer. I'm not going to worry about how rich or influential I am. Instead, I'm going to pick an area of the game and dive in, all guns blazing.
With that in mind, I am waiting in the queue to join Eve University for the second time before trying to learn everything I can about mining. Then, well, we'll see where the journey takes me.
