My first few days back in Eve have been fun. Having rejoined the Uni and the AMC I have been doing a bit of mining around the local system although not a huge amount because we are under a wardec. Unfortunately, this restricts me a fair bit as I don’t know enough about the game mechanics to earn much ISK doing station-based activities.
I did get an invite to go and mine a WH ore site and, whilst not massively profitable in my Venture, it was pretty exciting and I learnt how to use the D-scan and managed to escape with 500k Isk of Hemorphite.
So, with not many fleets happening (at least when I am logged on) I’m taking the opportunity to get organised in the following areas:
1. Training
I’ve realised that my previous time in New Eden has not been spent particularly wisely in developing the skills of my main character Darrenius Enaka. Although I have pretty good mining and refining skills, the rest of my skills seem a bit random, with lots loitering at level 2 and 3. Time to sort it out!
I’ve used EveMon to develop a skills plan that will sort me for the next couple of months. It focuses on some core skills (navigation, cap use etc) as well as preparing my main for future activities as I put in place my 6 month plan to explore New Eden (e.g. PI/Trading skills). Looking at the plan, I’ll have to go and buy a few skill books, some of which are a bit pricey so I need to keep mining when I can to pay for them.
2. Assets and Hangars
A click on the Personal Assets tab tells me that I have stuff dotted all over New Eden, most of which I had completely forgotten about. With my ethos in mind of ‘give back to the uni, I contacted their logistics department to see if they would want any of it as it’s too far for me to collect and not that valuable. Turns out that it’s also too far and not that valuable for them as well. I guess Civilian Webifiers and a few tech 1 modules aren’t that exciting.
As I don’t have the skills to sell the stuff remotely, I’ll probably end up just trashing the rubbish stuff and perhaps auctioning the more valuable goods. I’ve never used the auction mechanics but that’s something I’ve learned and I have put up a Badger with two Expanded Cargoholds for auction. If they sell, great. If not, I’ll have to think of a plan B.
My hangar was also a mess but thanks to some helpful folks in the AMC, I’ve discovered the mess-reducing joy of station containers. Now I have all my stuff in nice anally-retentive boxes.
3. Clones and implants
I have three clones dotted about New Eden but none of them are particularly different. I did have a clean clone in Eve Uni HQ but ended up flying somewhere and now he’s left stranded light years away from Aldrat Pator Tech School. I also want to look into implants. I have one or two implants that I got from missions but have no real clue what they do or how to choose better ones so I’m going to ask in the channels for advice on a good implant set for a miner. This will be the clone that I use solely for the AMC.
4. Ships and fittings
Most of my ships are mining (Covetor, Procurer, Venture) with a shuttle and a Merlin knocking about. I’ve realised that I don’t have enough modules to fit them all and leave them fitted so I am ending up having to strip fittings all the time. The inevitable result being a six-jump hop to do some mining only to realise I had nothing fitted and I would have to suck the ore out with my teeth. Decision made: invest some of my ISK reserves in buying enough modules for all of my ships. I have also discovered that I can ‘save’ fits so rather than having to drag items one at a time, I can fit the whole ship at once. Helpful CCP! Big thanks to Jefferson Spence for helping me out buying a fully fitted Retriever!
That’s all for today. Things I’ve learned: How to set up an auction, how to mine in a WH and use d-scan, how to get organised. Things on my to do list for the next couple of days: Find out about www.eve-bet.com, learn about implants, and earn some ISK!
